Reasonscape Pilot at EE: Testing Structured AI-Assisted Reasoning
A pilot event testing whether structured multithreaded reflection helps sophisticated users move past conversation stalls on hard normative questions.
Transformational change personally and socially requires excavating and pressure testing our foundational beliefs: assumptions, values, and evidence.
The problem: AI chat is increasingly how people work through hard moral and political questions — but linear conversations tend to stall. Users drift, lose threads, and outsource synthesis to the model. Existing AI deliberation tools focus on bridging surface-level opinions between people, missing that productive disagreement depends on individual reflection first. As AI gets more embedded in how people form views, the gap will widen.
What we’re testing. Reasonscape is an AI-assisted reasoning environment for hard normative questions. Instead of linear chat, the reasoning takes shape as a multi-threaded outline — claims, assumptions, values, and evidence the user can investigate branch by branch. We’re piloting at Edge Esmeralda to test a core product claim: that structured reflection helps people push past where chat conversations typically stall.
The pilot tests four product claims:
Elicitation quality — does AI-led structured questioning surface assumptions and considerations users hadn't articulated?
Productive structure — does the multi-threaded outline (claims, assumptions, values, evidence) feel like real thinking work or like overhead?
Durability — does the reasoning artifact remain useful days after the session, or fade like most chat conversations do?
Comparative value — do users feel they got further than they did in their prior AI conversations on the same question?
What we’ll run. A 30-minute structured event: participants bring a question they’ve already explored with AI, complete a brief intake survey, reflect using Reasonscape for ~20 minutes, complete a post-survey, and receive a follow-up 3-5 days later. We’re targeting 20-25 participants across the residency. Each session produces a structured reasoning artifact the participant keeps. Aggregate findings — qualitative themes, pre/post measures of clarity and confidence, durability of the reasoning artifact at follow-up — will be shared back with the village and feed into Reasonscape’s production design.
What this funds. Participant honoraria ($20 x 25 = $500), compute for Reasonscape sessions (~$200). Any surplus funds participant honoraria for an extended follow-up cohort.
Why this matters. Edge Esmeralda is the right population to test whether structured reflection genuinely adds value over chat for sophisticated users. The pilot is part of a broader 2026 program building partnerships with academic and civic institutions to evaluate AI as a reasoning partner.
━ Active Reasonscape Experiments ━
Four different use-case pilot experiments are currently underway for Reasonscape:
• Usability (self-analysis / personal reflection)
• Philosophy (resolving complex conceptual dialectics)
• Politics & Deliberation (scaling cross-cultural moral dialogues)
• Agent Representation (epistemic scaffolding for collective decision-making)
━━━ Budget Request ━━━
• Participant honoraria (25 participants) — $500
• Compute budget — $200
━━━ Total: $700 ━━━
