Reasonscape Pilot: Scaling Cross-Cultural Deliberation on Existential Questions

The problem. Traditional diplomatic or civic dialogues on complex normative disputes—such as the ethics and prevention of conflict and war—often break down along tribal, cultural, and semantic lines. Deliberating parties collapse into superficial, adversarial positions, unable to parse the structural reasoning of those from divergent cultural backgrounds. There is currently no robust mechanism to map, structure, and contrast underlying cognitive frameworks cross-culturally before engaging in live dialogue. What we are testing. We are testing a decentralized, structured interview process facilitated by Reasonscape. Instead of open-ended conversational exchanges, we will conduct individual reasoning excavations with participants from diverse backgrounds on a singular existential theme (e.g., “Are there principled, shareable grounds on which conflict/war is preventable?”). We will evaluate whether transforming individual reflections into a multi-threaded Reasonscape map yields clearer structural commonalities, isolates true semantic divergences, and prevents dialogues from stalling compared to traditional, unmapped deliberations. What we will run. • De-correlated Elicitation: 5 individual 20-minute structured Reasonscape reasoning sessions with residents from different cultural boundaries. • The Facilitation Test: Grouping participants with contrasting cognitive maps into a 30-minute structured dialogue session using the compiled Reasonscape outline as our deliberative canvas. • The Evaluation: Programmatically assessing self-reported moral clarity, consensus durability, and changes in perspective.
