Reasonscape Pilot: Resolving Dialectical Cruxes on Complex Philosophical Questions

The problem. Philosophical debates on complex, high-stakes domains typically stall because of unexamined assumptions, conflated concepts, and a lack of rigorous, non-linear argument tracking. Rather than achieving actual conceptual breakthroughs, standard linear conversations often lead participants to recycle static arguments without identifying the actual logical cruxes. What we are testing. We are testing whether Reasonscape can facilitate actual conceptual progress on hard philosophical questions. By mapping a selected debate as a non-linear tree of decomposed premises, Socratic challenges, and evidence, we test whether structured dialogue around an explicit argument graph allows participating philosophers to bypass semantic bottlenecks and isolate the actual logical nodes of disagreement. We will select a live philosophical theme with representation in the Edge community—such as machine consciousness, value theory, or ethics—to conduct this test. What we will run. A 60-minute structured deliberation with a cohort of 3 philosophers focusing on a selected, high-impact philosophical dispute. Participants first map their initial premises individually on Reasonscape. These views are systematically merged, and the cohort engages in a 30-minute structured deliberation focused on verifying, refuting, or resolving specific conceptual cruxes on the shared argument tree.
