We reject the cynical notion that conflict and cruelty are inevitable aspects of the human condition. Instead, we believe that when provided with the right tools, freedom, and support, humanity will always choose progress, creation, and cooperation. They can nearly always be solved diplomatically. Carrots and sticks are important in incentive mechanism design.
